Barrack Street Businesses Feel Impact Of Traffic Restrictions

Businesses on Barrack Street in Ennis claim traffic restrictions in the area are already having a negative impact.

And while shop-owners there say they understand the need for the works being carried out, they are concerned at their timing.

The final phase of the Ennis Market Rejuvenation Project got underway earlier this week, with the aim of completing a new covered building for market traders in the town by the end of July.

Since then, there have been restrictions on vehicular access to the Barrack Street area, with strict limitations on parking.

When the closures were announced a number of local businesses signed a letter to Clare County Council, expressing their concern over the possible impact on trading in the area.

And Noel Conroy of the Computer Store says, while he thinks the work is necessary, they're already starting to notice a difference.

Mary Keane of Ennis Lock and Key has also seen an impact and claims that communication from the council has been limited.

Businesspeople have told Clare FM they are hopeful that the long term benefits of improvements will eventually offset the current cost.

However, Kathy Marr of Olive Vintage Style Boutique is unhappy the works are being carried out during the busy tourist season.
