The President of the European Commission has vowed to ensure the viability of Farmers and rural communities in the course of his presidency.
Speaking in Shannon over the weekend, Jose Manuel Barroso said that there are a number of difficulties facing the farming community across Europe including Ireland
He told members of the Oireachtas Committee on European affairs that without Europe, the future for Agriculture would be a disaster.

President Barroso also said that farming and the importance of the rural communities across Europe cannot be underestimated.
