Bed Closures at Limerick Regional

Deep concern has been expressed  after the HSE announced a further cut in health services in the Mid West.

The Executive is to close 25 beds at Limerick Regional Hospital, while spending on agency staff and overtime is to be halved.

The decision comes in light of a 21 million euro overspend to June – officials admit they can’t get funding to cover this from outside the Mid West.

Nursing staff fear the move will impact on front-line services for patients in Clare Limerick and Tipperary as well as put pressure on existing services at Ennis General.

Noel Treanor, INMO Industrial Relations Officer, feels this latest development will spark concern among the people of Clare
