Bhamjee feels recession playing significant role in suicide

A prominent Clare psychiatrist has estimated a quarter of suicides in Ireland are as a  result of social factors such as the recession.

Former Labour Party TD Dr. Moosajee Bhamjee has also called on the government to increase funding to tackle mental health and substance abuse issues, which he says are causing increasing problems.

Over 1,000 people have died by suicide in Ireland in the last two years, with men four times more likely to take their lives then women

Dr. Bhamjee has told Clare FM that he feels depression is not the sole cause
