Bitter disappointment over Air Ambulance Service

Calls have been made for an overhaul of a new air ambulance service, before its even begun,  to ensure better access for patients in West Clare.

From Monday week, an air corps operated helicopter will assist ambulances in transferring patients to hospitals from remote areas.

However speaking on Clare Fm’s Morning Focus Dr Cathal O’Donnell -Chief Medical Officer with the National Ambulance Service said the dedicated aeromedical HSE support will only operate from 8:00 to 6:00 each day, and the helicopter can only be called upon by paramedics who have already attended the scene of a 999 call.

Kilbaha resident Ailish Connolly was among those who told Clare Fm’s John Cooke that that it’s huge blow for rural communities in West Clare who believed the service would have a different approach.
