Shannon has been dealt a blow, as plans for a major civic centre there have been abandoned over a lack of funding.
The Shannon Venue has been in the planning for around six years, with voluntary group Croí na Sionna behind the push.
Though a site has been identified and planning permission for the civic centre granted, the latest round of funding under the government’s Urban Regeneration Fund saw just €100,000 granted, well short of the €8 million price tag.
