The flatulence of cows could provide a new source of energy and income for Clare farmers.
Ennis Green Party Councillor Brian Meaney has welcomed proposals that will require livestock owners to trap the methane gas emissions of their cattle, in a bid to lower Ireland’s harmful greenhouse gas emissions in line with Kyoto protocol.
Gas Collection devices for the climate change initiative are to be manufactured in County Limerick, while it’s hoped farmers will profit from harnessing the energy potential of bovine wind, with research showing that one cow creates up to 1000 litres of methane per day.
