A Garda investigation is underway into the death of a man following an assault in Ennis this afternoon.
Emergency services were alerted to an incident involving two men at Gordon Drive at around 3 o’clock, during which one of the men was seriously injured.
The man, who was in his 30s, passed away after being placed in an ambulance.
His body was removed to the Mortuary in University Hospital Limerick where a post mortem will take place tomorrow morning by the State Pathologist Dr. Margaret Bolster.
The scene has been sealed off for a technical examination.
A man in his late 30s was later arrested and is currently detained at Ennis Garda Station under Section 4, Criminal Justice Act, 1984.
Gardaí are appealing to anyone who was in the Cloughleigh Estate/Gordon Drive area of Ennis this afternoon between 2.30pm and 3.30pm, who can assist in this investigation, or who may have camera footage, to contact Ennis Garda Station on 065 6848100, the Garda Confidential Line 1800 666 111 or any Garda Station.
