Calls for extra road funding for Clare were made in Dail Eireann last night.
It follows widespread disappointment after Minister Noel Dempsey announced that no extra funding will be offered to cover the cost of repairing pot holes and damaged surfaces caused by freezing temperatures and flooding in Clare and other parts of the country.
Clare Fine Gael TD Pat Breen raised the issue as part of an adjournment debate in the Dail telling the Transport Minister of numerous reports of burst tyres and safety concerns for drivers who cannot accept sub standard road conditions."
Deputy Breen said Clare County Council is cash starved and will not be able to restore roads to a satisfactory condition if the Government does not provide additional funding.
