The meeting – the Prime Minister's first to Ireland since taking office in July last year, is due to prioritise Brexit, but will likely also discuss the Trump's administration's recent controversial travel ban.
Sources close to the Prime Minister say that she is very conscious of ensuring that the Irish government is assured that Irish-UK relations are a top priority for her.
Both sides are likely to discuss how much they can agree upon regarding the situation in Northern Ireland and the common travel area while keeping in mind Ireland will negotiate as a member of the EU.
There was also an admission that the UK is in a difficult position regarding US policy, but for now they have to get on with whoever is in the White House, given the reciprocal nature of the US-UK relationship.
And also the sensitive situation for the UK regarding trade relations internationally.
And finally there was an admission that it Is regrettable Theresa May wasn't able to address the Dáil on this occasion – but there may be an occasion down the line.
