The family of the late Brian Casey from Lissycasey have expressed their overwhelming sense of loss and devastation following the death of the 26 year old school teacher last Christmas.
The popular school teacher’s grieving sister and partner delivered emotional victim impact statements to Ennis Circuit Court last evening, before two men were jailed for the unprovoked attack at O’Connell Square in Ennis on December 26th, 2009.
Harry Dinan of Waterpark Heights in Ennis was on temporary release from prison at the time, and will now serve five years for the unlawful killing, while his nephew Kevin Dinan from Clarehill, Clarecastle will serve four years once his current sentence for burglary is complete.
Brian Casey’s sister Martina told the court it was difficult to put into words the overwhelming sense of pain her family is trying to live with since he was taken so suddenly and violently on December 26th last,
318 days since their lives changed forever, Ms Casey said her heartbroken parents can only visit Brian’s grave now when they should be watching him at a match or working with him on the farm – the court heard the 26 year old teacher was working on a second degree, looking for a site to settle down with his partner Cecilia, and encouraging his team mates on the O’Casey football team to make a real push for another championship win.
Cecilia Talty told the court, she misses her partner in life and best friend of 10 years every minute of the day, and their plans for a long life were torn apart by malicious actions that deprived him of the life he deserved
She urged the court to seek justice for Brian while Martina Casey said no sentence would replace Brian, before Judge Carroll Moran imposed a five year prison term for Harry Dinan and 4 years for his nephew Kevin. Brian Casey’s family left the court without further comment.
