Broad Welcome To Drop In Unemployment In Clare

There's a broad welcome to reduced unemployment figures in Clare for the first time in three months, however public representatives say more work needs to be done.

There's now 7,923 people signing on for some form of unemployment benefit, down 154 people in August.

The largest drop was in Ennis, where 79 people left the dole queues, while in East Clare, the figure was down 30 and there was a fall of 27 in North Clare.

In the West of the county the figure came down by 18 but Ennistymon-based Senator Martin Conway says that's a worrying figure.

Killaloe-area Councillor Pat Hayes says there's still a significant amount of people here who don't have a job.

He believes more investment is needed in rural areas.
