Ennis Town Council’s decision to approve plans for a private 60 million euro hospital on the Gort Road has been welcomed as a boost to Clare’s health services.
The urban authority gave the project at the site of the former psychiatric hospital the green light subject to a number of conditions, including that it incorporates the listed building as part of the development.
The 97 in bed facility will generate 100 jobs during construction and a further 600 when operational.
However its subject to approval by An Bord Pleanala – in 2011- plans for private hospital on the western fringes of Ennis at Shanaway Road were rejected.
But Ennis Councillor and Clare Health Forum member believes the Gort Road site is a suitable location
