Burmese Nobel Peace Laureate to visit Ireland today

Aung San Suu Kyi – the Burmese pro-democracy leader – will be awarded the Freedom of Dublin city later.

She’s in Ireland to receive Amnesty International’s Prisoner of Conscience Award, and will also be conferred with an Honorary Degree from Trinity College.

The 66-year-old will deliver an open air address – which thousands of people are expected to attend – after a concert in her honour at Grand Canal Square in Dublin.

Aung San Suu Kyi spent years under house arrest in Burma, but recently entered parliament finally.
