Moves to have the Burren and the Cliffs of Moher classified as a UNESCO Geopark have moved a step closer.
Evaluators from The European Geoparks Networks visited the North Clare sites last week to meet with local groups and to assess the facilities available to tourists who come to County Clare.

Achieving Geo Park status will provide the region with an identity as a region for sustainable ecotourism that is recognised across Europe.
The proposed Geopark comprises of a network of publicly accessible sites , education and visitor centres, the newly accredited Burren Ecotourism Network as well as the existing Shannon Region Trails and National Walking Routes.
