The Burren in Co. Clare has been voted the nation’s favourite heritage site.
A new survey also highlights the popularity of Newgrange in Co. Meath and Dublin’s GPO.
This study was commissioned to mark National Heritage Week.
It found that while most people view our Irish heritage as ‘critically important’ to tourism, very few of us actually get around to visiting many of the sites and landmarks.
We’re most ashamed of failing to take in the view at the Hill of Tara in Co. Meath and the Giants Causeway in Co. Antrim.
But it’s the Burren which tops our list of favourite historical sites. Two in five people surveyed want the Co Clare area to be added to the UNESCO world heritage list.
