Business as usual after severe Banner flooding

It's business as usual in West and North Clare after homes and businesses were submerged in up to eight inches of water over the weekend.

Intensive rain on Friday night led to flooding in Miltown Malbay, Doolin, Lidoonvarna, Mullagh and Cree in particular.

Further heavy rain is expected in parts of Clare throughout the day but a status yellow rainfall alert has been lifted since midday.

This latest warning followed a weekend of intensive rain which led to the flooding of many homes and businesses throughout West and North Clare.

Up to eight inches of water was recorded in some areas and communities pulled together throughout the weekend as part of a major clean-up operation.

Pat from McGann's Pub in Doolin says he's never seen anything like it.

Crews from Clare County Council have been monitoring badly-hit areas over the past two days and are waiting for remaining flood waters to recede before an assessment is carried out.

Senior Engineer Paul Moroney says there are concerns about one area in particular in Miltown Malbay.

Tony Cogan from Cogan's Bar and Restaurant fears the closure of Clonboney Bridge will have a detrimental affect on tourism.

But it's business as usual in West and North Clare again today with businesses putting the message out – that their doors are once again open for business. 

Meanwhile,

Gardaí are advising motorists to take extra care on county roads this afternoon as further rain is forecast.

There's excess surface water on some roads which could lead to aquaplaning.

People are also being asked to watch out for padestrian's and cyclists during times when visability is poor.
