Receivers have been appointed to the Doonbeg Golf Club resort in West Clare.
The 5-star luxury facility is officially on the market as a going concern after receivers were appointed there yesterday, but staff have been told they’re being kept on and it’s business as usual for now.
Following substantial losses, the Directors of Doonbeg Golf Club and the Lodge at Doonbeg have been unable to discharge undisclosed secured debt, so Ernst and Young were invited in and have now appointed Luke Charleton and David Hughes to oversee the receivership at one of Ireland and Europe’s most distinguished 5-star luxury resorts which has employed up to 245 people in West Clare during the peak summer season.
According to the receivers the Lodge at Doonbeg will continue to trade as normal with all employment being maintained and suppliers being retained, while there’ll be no change in the status of members of Doonbeg Golf Club, events booked will go ahead as scheduled, and deposits and gift vouchers will be honoured.
In a statement to Clare FM, receiver Luke Charleton said interest has already been expressed in the property and he’s hopeful of concluding a sale as a going concern within a short time frame.
