Business Groups Bemoan Fuel Cost Rise

Clare hoteliers says the failure to act on rising fuel prices is already starting to impact on the tourism sector.

A cut in tax and excise duty on fuel has already been repeatedly ruled out by the goverment which says many of the factors driving up the cost is out of its control and to reduce the duty would impact on another area of spending.

The cost of filling up the tank has now surpassed the 1.7 a litre mark and as well as hitting the daily commuter motoring groups and opposition politicians say its affecting both domestic and foreign tourism, and social activities like dining out.
