Cabinet Minister Hits Out At Apple

A member of the Cabinet says the European Commission has set itself up as "prosecutor, judge and executioner" in relation to the Apple tax ruling.

Meanwhile the European Commissioner behind the ruling has rejected claims it was a 'political' decision.

The Independent Alliance are meeting again to decide on their position ahead of tomorrow's Cabinet meeting.

The war of words following the apple tax ruling continues with the tech giant boss Tim Cook today describing it as "political crap".

That's led to a hit back from the European Commissioner who oversaw the ruling.

Margrethe Vestager's insisting her ruling is based completely on facts which can be tested in the European Courts.

But the claims of the Commission overstepping its powers are also coming from within the Cabinet.

Education Minister Richard Bruton's accused it of a power grab.

He's also denied there's a rift in Cabinet between Fine Gael and Independents.

Independent Alliance Ministers are meeting again this afternoon to decide their position going into tomorrow's Cabinet meeting where Fine Gael are demanding Ireland launch an appeal to the European Courts.
