An East Clare Sinn Féin local election hopeful is calling on the government to apologise for civil war executions carried out in this county.
Patrick O’Mahoney, Christopher Quinn and William O’Shaughnessy were all executed by firing squad in 1923, the latter pair two days after the ceasefire in the Irish Civil War and are now laid to rest in Drumcliffe Cemetery in Ennis.
Official figures put the number of anti-treaty republicans and civilians executed during the Civil War at 77, though it’s feared the true number is much higher.
