Call For Preservation Status For Historic Meelick Bridge

Calls are being made for preservation status to be granted to an almost 200-year-old bridge in South East Clare to ensure it survives for many years to come.

The Barrly Thomous Bridge in Woodcockhill, Meelick is currently closed as urgent repair works are carried out, after the stonework on the bridge, which was built in the 1830s, was coming away.

Three weeks of work is planned to address the issue and now, Mayor of Clare Fianna Fáil Councillor Cathal Crowe wants to see a special status given to the bridge.
