Call For Shannon To France Route As Brexit Looms

The Taoiseach believes support for Theresa May’s Brexit deal will increase as it gets closer to a vote in the House of Commons.

The draft Withdrawal Agreement was approved by the UK government and EU 27 leaders yesterday at a summit in Brussels.

Theresa May now has to win support for the deal in the House of Commons before it can become legally binding.

Meanwhile, with Brexit on the horizon, it’s claimed a direct route from Shannon Airport to France will be vital.

Once the UK leaves the European Union in March, France will be our nearest EU neighbour, but there’s no link from there to the MidWest.

The local authority is to write to the Minister for Transport to progress the matter, after Shannon Group’s Managing Director of Shannon Airport said a European hub will be crucial.

Sixmilebridge Fine Gael Councillor John Crowe, who brought the motion forward, says it’s vital given what’s just around the corner.
