Calls In Clare For Covid Cert Requirement To Be Extended To Hotels

A North Clare hotelier says it would “only be right” to extend the digital covid cert requirement to hotels.

It comes as new covid-19 restrictions have come into force, in reaction to a surge in cases.

As covid cases rise, people are again being asked to work from home.

Covid certs are now needed for a trip to the cinema or theatre, while bars, restaurants and nightclubs have to shut their doors by midnight.

Here in Clare, 1,288 new infections were recorded in the two weeks up to this Monday, with four out of five of Clare’s Electoral areas seeing a jump in figures.

Weddings will now have to wrap up by midnight, as hotel bars are included in the new closing times.

Chair of the Clare Tourism Advisory Forum, Sean Lally, who’s the owner of Woodstock Hotel in Ennis, says it’s leading to many couples re-arranging their weddings for earlier in the day.

A North Clare hotelier says the new restrictions have caused a lot of consternation among many businesses in the industry.

There’s still no requirement for hotels to ask those staying in their facility for a covid cert and Michael Vaughan of Vaughan’s Lodge in Lahinch says this needs to be seriously re-considered.
