Clare County Council is being urged to install CCTV cameras at 3 designated traveller accomodation sites as quickly as possible as the cost of manually securing the units continues to soar.
The local authority is set to pay out 280 thousand euro for the closed circuit camera system at locations in Shannon and Ennis.
It’s three times the original estimate but the system will bring an end to the 3000 euro a week security costs a currently being spent by the council in a bid to curb vandalism.
It has also emerged that at one of the sites- Beechpark in Ennis has been half vacant for over a year.
Ennis Councillor James Breen is urging the local authority to install the CCTV as soon as possible as the current costs simply aren’t sustainable
