There are fresh calls for Clare County Council to scrap the recycling charge imposed at the recycling centres across the county.
The four euro charge was adopted in the local authority’s budget at the beginning of the year and has caused some contraversy in the county with people fearful that it will discourage people from using the facilities.
The council say that they hope to raise 300 thousand euro per year from the charge.
Environment Minister John Gormley has allocated over 240 thousand euro to the local authority to cover the cost of maintaining bring banks and civic amenities and local Green Party candidate Brian Meaney now believes that the council should look at scrapping the four euro charge.
