Calls For Long-Term Solution To Flooding In South Galway

Calls have been made for a long-term plan to be outlined immediately to address flooding in South Galway.

The comments from Galway East Fianna Fail TD Anne Rabbitte come after the local authority commenced filling in a trench which was dug to alleviate water levels in Cahermore at the height of this winter's heavy rains.

Deputy Rabbitte says she was contacted by local residents, concerned that the work had begun without any consultation with them.

Galway County Council says the work has now been suspended but the Fianna Fail TD says a promised timeline for when a Minor Works Scheme to tackle the flooding would begin has still not materialised.
