Calls for oral hearings over domiciliary care allowance cuts

The government’s being urged to put oral hearings in place to allow Clare parents the opportunity to fight against cuts to the domiciliary care allowance.

This week, Clare County Council has heard that almost half of the 400 children with special needs who had been receiving the payments have seen the allowance taken away – the scheme is worth just over 300 euro a month to families.

Protests were yesterday held in Dublin and Cork by parents and children, demanding an urgent meeting with the Minister for Social Protection over the issue.

Cooraclare Councillor Bill Chambers believes oral hearing should be put in place where the funding is removed , but feels the moneys should simply be paid.
