Their phone call came as an international team of observers claimed the separatists were stopping them from getting full access to the area where a Malaysia Airlines plane crashed on Thursday, killing on 298 people onboard.

Britain and the US say Pro Russian separatists shot down the aircraft with a missile.

The Ukrainian Government has also accused what it calls "terrorists supported by Russia" of trying to destroy evidence at the scene of the disaster in Eastern Ukraine.

Both Ukrainian and Malaysian officials have said that experts attempting to secure the site must be left to get on with their work.

In the past hour, Reporter Stuart Ramsay – who's at the crash site  – said officials from the Organisation for Security and Co-operation in Europe are now being allowed in.
