There are calls for the swift roll-out of a comprehensive postal code system after an ambulance -called to an emergency in the Kilnamona area -went to the wrong location.
The family of the man at the centre of the emergency – who died from a suspected heart attack – had sought answers from the HSE over the length of time it took to respond to the 999 call.
The ambulance service has since apologised to the family stating that the controller had given the ambulance crew incorrect directionsm and that the mistake was then compounded by confusion over the presence of a second ambulance in the area.
It’s lead to calls for a complete postal code system for every premises across the county while local Councillor Tony Mulqueen also believes emergency vehicles should have GPS systems.
