Calls for Roche Clarification on jobs

Management at Roche Ireland are being called upon to clarify the future of it’s Clare staff, following it’s decision to discontinue planned clinical trials.

It had been hoped that sales of a drug aimed at tackling heart disease  would reach 10 billion dollars annually, and lead to a significant employment boost at it’s base in Clarecastle.

However, the decision to end trials of the drug following poor results has left many of it’s workers in limbo.

225 staff are directly employed by Roche at Clarecastle, along with between 100 and 200 contracted workers, and Roche Ireland has told Clare FM that it’s too early to say how many will be affected by the development.

However, Ennis Councillor Tommy Brennan says those people deserve answers.
