Calls for Ryanair’s planned maintenance facility to be relocated to the Mid West

Calls have been made to relocate Ryanair’s planned maintenance facility –  and the 300 jobs promised with it – to Shannon.

As Tánaiste Mary Coughlan met with Ryanair Chief Michael O’Leary last night regarding the controversial plans for Dublin Airport, she also agreed to raise the issue of the low fares airlines’ planned withdrawal of 75% of its Shannon services next month.

Local Fine Gael Deputies Pat Breen and Joe Carey raised the issue of the 18 Ryanair services which will end at Shannon following the breakdown of negotiations over landing cots and the governments travel tax.

And Deputy Joe Carey also suggested that if Ryanair can’t create 300 aircraft maintenance jobs in Dublin, perhaps they could in county Clare!
