Calls for urgent action on Saint Joseph’s

There are calls for a "realisable urgent" plan to be put in place for the upgrade of Saint Joseph’s Hospital in Ennis.

The latest report from health watch dog HIQUA has severely criticised the HSE for failing to address issues it had previously raised about the suitability of the Clare health care facility

HIQA has criticised the Health Service Executive for making ‘no progress’ in addressing issues with the building at St. Joseph’s Hospital, saying it’s layout and design impacts ‘on the privacy and dignity’ of it’s 118 patients.

However, a HSE spokesman says it’s current budgetary position presents a ‘significant challenge’ in undertaking the necessary works.

Clare Councillor and Health Forum West Member Brian Meaney says successive governments have failed to take action on this matter and the current coalition needs to draw up an  urgent cost effective plan taking the current financial constraints into account, that will be acceptable to  HIQUA , The HSE and the staff and patients at Saint Joseph’s Hospital.
