Calls In Clare For Severe Penalties To Be Imposed On People Involved In Dangerous Driving

Calls have been made in Clare for severe penalties to imposed on people involved in dangerous driving.

It comes amidst claims that the "boyracer" culture has been revived in parts of the county, with some of the cars being driven by those involved described as "weapons" on the roads.

What's known as the "boyracer" culture came to a height in this country the early naughties but it seemed to fade away again during the recession.

Now it's claimed that along with an improving economy, there's been a resurgence in recent times in Clare.

Meelick Councillor Cathal Crowe wants to see cars, which he's described as "weapons", impounded or destroyed if used in dangerous activity.

Councillor Crowe says measures aimed at reducing speed, including electronic speed signs, have instead proven counter-productive.

Renewed calls are now being made for severe penalties to be imposed on those involved in dangerous driving, amidst fears that lives will be lost on our roads.

Sixmilebridge Councillor Alan O'Callaghan has suggested that a controlled area be put in place to keep this kind of behaviour off public roads.
