Members of the public are being urged to protect the River Shannon water course.
The Shannon Protection Alliance have made the appeal, ahead of a public meeting in Limerick today, to highlight their concerns over Dublin City Council’s plans to siphon water from the River Shannon to service Dublin city and suburbs.
Dublin City Council hope to extract 350 million litres per day from the river to meet an increasing demand for water in the Capital over the next 70 years.

However local campaigners, including the Shannon Protection Alliance say there could be detrimental effects on the river and lakes if the plan is approved.
