A cautious welcome has been given in Clare to a proposed new system of inspections for rental accomodation.
NCT style inspections are being considered as part of an overall review of the minimum standards for rented homes.
It would see routine inspections carried out to ensure that housing is in a suitable condition and is one of a series of measures being considered by authorities in a bid to deal with the housing crisis.
Lissycasey Councillor PJ Kelly, who's a member of Clare County Council's Housing Committee, believes that while it's important that rental properties are kept to a good standard, there shouldn't be a prohibitive cost involved.
