CCTV cameras are to be installed at traveller accommodation developments in Ennis and Shannon in a bid to curb vandalism and bring an end to security bills costing more than one hundred thousand euro.
Round the clock security patrols at the Beech park Halting site on the Kilmaley Road in Ennis have amounted to six figure sums since major vandalism incidents at houses there last year but a new pilot project to curb such problems is now being introduced.
Clare County Council is to provide CCTV at Beechpark and Ashline in Ennis as well as at the Ballymurtagh site in Shannon through funding provided by the Department of the Environment.
The full cost at each site won’t be known until the tendering process is complete but Ennis Councillor Brian Meaney believes the cameras are a necessary measure
