A special celebration to mark 50 years of women in the Gardaí will be held this evening for members of the force in County Clare.
The special mass, followed by a gathering in the Old Ground Hotel in Ennis is part of nationwide celebrations of the anniversary of female recruits entering the Garda Síochána
Nationally, there are over 32 hundred female Gardaí in the force accounting for 22 percent.
In Clare, over 23 percent of the force is female, including two Sergeants.
Chief Superintendent of the Clare Garda Division, Mary Fitzgerald says that this evening’s celebrations is an opportunity to mark the changes that have come about in the Gardaí over the last 50 years
