It’s business as usual at Shannon Airport today, with the post Christmas rush continuing and many heading home after the holidays.
But following historic changes with the arrival of Independent Status for Shannon overnight, passengers are being welcomed with refreshments throughout the day to mark the occasion.
The terminal building has been decorated with banners displaying the slogan – "Shannon Airport – Just think how far we can go" as management express hopes for an economic boost for the wider mid-west region from their new independent status.
And one lucky passenger Dervilla Donohoe from Rosehill, Sligo, on board the first flight in at 5 am this morning received tickets two return Aer Lingus tickets to the US from Shannon courtesy of the airline, plus complimentary car parking and access to the airport’s executive lounge.
