CEO letter sparks new war of words at Element Six

Element Six workers have reacted angrily to management’s latest ultimatum over the rescue plan and redundancy offer at the Shannon plant.

Unions have described The CEO comments as inaccurate, ill informed and out of touch with the views of staff.

In a letter to workers this week Cyrus Jilla suggested a minority was preventing progress in negotiations on plans to save 163 jobs and that the company may be forced to wind-down operations in the Mid West.

Workers staged a demo at lunchtime today to highlight their opposition to the CEO’s comments and to display the unity between staff and unions.

Mr Pat O’Connor, (SIPTU) Chairman of the Shop Stewards Committee said that the tone of Mr Jilla’s statement showed a lack of respect for the employees both union and non union at the plant."

He added that it revealed how much concern or regard the CEO had for the Shannon employees when he did not have the good manners to personally come here and announce the closure of the plant in July.

The letter does what the company always seems to do these days, resort to bulldozing and threats when management do not get their way immediately.

Then this afternoon,

In a short statement to Clare Fm this afternoon a spokesperson for CEO Cyrus Jilla says he ‘s made the company’s position patently clear in his letter to staff ..

The spokesperson added that it’s now up to certain union representatives to decide whether or not they want to save jobs and secure redundancy or prevent to the wind-down plan.
