Clare people who are residing illegally in New York will soon be able to open a bank account and have other privilleges put in place.

It follows a decision by the city council to create identity cards for illegal immigrants.
However it does not go as far as give permission for travel or to apply for a driving licence.
Fine Gael TD Pat Breen Chairman of the Joint Oireachtas Committee on Foreign Affairs and Trade says it will ease the pressure on many thousands of people in the city.
However Deputy Breen says the campaign doesn't end here.
