Chief Medical Officer Warns Case Numbers Could Easily Rise To Limerick Levels

The Chief Medical Officer is urging people in Clare to continue to follow public health advice, despite “reassuring” daily case numbers here.

Dr Tony Holohan has commended people in this county for responsible collective behaviour that has helped to suppress the spread of covid-19, but has pointed to figures in Limerick, saying it shows how quickly and easily the situation can get out of hand.

Limerick’s levels of Covid-19 are around three and a half times the national average, but a local lockdown isn’t being considered.

Testing capacity at one of the walk-in centres in our neighbouring county will be doubled today, as part of efforts to tackle rising Covid rates, while a new pop-up testing facility will also be set up next week, with an online referral system going live today.

Fine Gael TD for Limerick city, Kieran O’Donnell says there’ll be a renewed effort to reduce infections among younger, unvaccinated people.
