Chief Superintendent concerned over further retirements

The Chief Superintendent of the Clare Garda Division admits he has concerns over policing levels in the county, should he be forced to deal with further reductions in manpower and resources.

Chief Superintendent John Kerin’s comments come as it’s confirmed that 43 Gardaí have been lost from the Clare Division since March of 2010.  Three more retirements are expected next month, and more could follow by the end of the year.

This week saw the release of new statistics on crime for the first half of the year, showing that overall levels in the county are broadly in line with last year, and Chief Superintendent Kerin says he’s pleased with the results.

However, he admits the potential of further retirements and ongoing budgetary concerns are worrying.
