Children’s Ombudsman calls for HSE meeting over crèche documentary

The Ombudsman for Children is seeking a meeting with the HSE to discuss her "serious concerns" about the care provided to children in crèches.

Emily Logan says the immediate concern is for the safety of children in the three crèches identified in last night’s Prime Time programme.

And she says it raises questions about the standard of care provided in all crèches.

The Taoiseach’s promised whatever measures necessary to stamp out the activities of children being abused in crèches as exposed on the documentary.

Enda Kenny’s told the Dáil it was an abuse of responsibility and that these crèches should not be an industry as childcare and child protection are professions.

He’s promised progress on the ‘Children First’ legislation and establishment of the Child and Family Support Agency within weeks.

And Mr Kenny says this will result in real change in the way these crèches are regulated and operated.
