Claims Calls For Action To Tackle UHL Overcrowding Are Falling On Deaf Ears

It’s claimed calls for action to tackle the record-breaking levels of overcrowding at the region’s main hospital are falling on deaf ears.

Figures from the INMO revealed record trolley numbers at University Hospital Limerick yesterday, with 80 people waiting for a bed at the Dooradoyle facility.

The UL Hospitals Group has said that high numbers have been attending over the past number of days, particularly elderly patients with complex needs, while the flu outbreak is continuing to compound the situation.

The crisis is mirrored nationally, resulting in the HSE cancelling all non urgent surgeries, and Former Chair of the HSE’s Regional Health Forum West, Kilmaley Fianna Fáil Councilllor Tom McNamara says it’s extremely concerning.
