It’s claimed producers at farmers markets throughout Clare are facing ‘excessive interference’ from the Food Safety Authority of Ireland.
MEP Marian harkin has claimed that officials here are exceeding requirements under EU law, by forcing individual stallholders to register, rather than markets as a whole.

A meeting betwen EC officials and representatives of the Irish Country Markets will be held in Brussels at the end of this month.
MEP Harkin, who has praised the likes of Ballyvaughan and other farmers’ markets in Clare, says such enterprises need to be supported, rather than impeded.
