Clare ASTI Representative Calls On Education Department To Meet With Unions

The ASTI's Committee Representative in Clare is calling on the Department of Education to meet with unions to try to resolve the ongoing row over cutbacks to education.

It comes as teacher's unions are warning of industrial action, after the commencement order for the Lansdowne Road Agreement was signed yesterday.

Both the ASTI and the TUI have refused to sign the new deal; Garda unions have also rejected it.

The head of the Workplace Relations Commission, Kieran Mulvey says if any changes are made to the Lansdowne Road Agreement for teachers – then other unions would come back looking for separate deals too.

But Peter Quinn, who is also a Teacher at St Flannans College in Ennis says the deal doesn't address grievances relating specifically to teachers.
