The first baby of the New Year hails from West Clare.
Little Leo McNamara entered the world at The Mid Western Regional Maternity Hospital in Limerick at a minute past midnight to proud parents Carmel McNamara and Charles Maples who are from Kilmihil and have two other children.
Leo weighed in at at 6lbs and 10 and a half ounces and his mum Carmel McNamara says she’s delighted all went well and has named him after her late father who passed away this month last year.
In Cork, Christine Casey from Carrigtwohill gave birth to her little girl Lexi a short time later at 3 minutes past 12.
The first Dublin baby of 2013 was born at the National Maternity Hospital on Holles Street – the little girl arrived at just 12 minutes past midnight.
Meanwhile in Kerry, Dermot and Kathleen Houlihan from Tralee welcomed baby Jack into the world just before half past 12 this morning at Kerry Regional Hospital.
