It’s believed that proposals for a boundary extension into South East Clare have been scrapped.
Clare FM understands the Environment Minister will recommend a single authority for Limerick next week but will not include proposals to include Shannon Banks and Westbury in an extended Limerick City, however uncertainly still surrounds the future the North Campus of UL with conflicted reports that it may be amalgamated.
The controversial recommendations which were contained in the Brosnan Report on Local Government structures in Limerick were met with stringent opposition among residents and local representatives in South East Clare.
Minister Hogan was expected to bring the plans before cabinet yesterday morning but Clare FM understand that this was delayed until next week as the Finance Minister and Mid West TD Michael Noonan is in the US.
Clare Labour TD Michael McNamara has given the news a cautious welcome and anxiously awaits confirmation from the Environment Minister next week.
