Clare Campaigner Hopes Medical Card Reform Will Eventually Apply To All Terminally Ill Patients

A prominent Clare campaigner is hopeful the government’s extension to medical cards for the gravely ill will eventually apply to all terminally sick patients.

Health Minister Stephen Donnelly has announced that people who have a terminal illness and have a prognosis of up to 24 months will now be entitled to the card.

The new rules will apply to patients with diagnoses across a range of specialties such as neurology, cardiology and oncology.

Quin man John Wall, who has campaigned for such a move for two and a half years after being diagnosed with terminal cancer himself, hopes eventually the measure can be extended further.
